Academic Policy Committee
The Academic Policy Committee is responsible for articulating the student voice in curricular and instructional issues at the university. The committee explores avenues to better academic life at the university by working with other students, faculty members and university administrators. The committee also conducts research on curriculum issues and writes legislation in order to improve academic services.
Current Committee Focus
The focus of the Academic Policy Committee for the 2017-2018 academic year is to serve as a conduit between students, college councils, and Student Government. Open dialogue with councils, students, and administration ensures that APC is apprised of relevant academic issues. Committee members will devise and publicize a constituent management portal allowing students to submit inquiries, complaints, and suggestions concerning existing university policies and implementing new ones. This portal will enable students to provide feedback on introduced legislation, view the implementation status of passed legislation, and provide avenues to assisting in the implementation process. APC will design a feedback mechanism to ensure pertinent administrative offices respond to our work in a timely manner. Finally, committee members will assist in planning Academic Policy Day and APCafe, a swanky evening event filled with prizes, policy, and Prince.
The legislative initiatives of the Academic Policy Committee for the 2017-2018 academic year include:
- Incorporating the University of Texas at Austin into the College Credit for Heroes programs to assist veterans in securing academic credit for service and expediting graduation rates.
- Removing the co-sponsorship clause for academically meritorious organizations such as TedTalks.
- Expanding Voices Against Violence Theatre for Dialogue programs to all 360 Connections.
- Devise a cultural-linguistic certificate for language courses.
- And more!
