Through the Undergraduate Research Committee, Senate works to connect students to research opportunities. Below you'll find a list of student run research organizations at UT. By providing and consistently updating this list, Senate hopes to inform students on the many avenues that exist to getting involved with research.

As mostly grad student members of MRS, we all do research in the field of materials science and have a vested interest in promoting its importance and scope. At UT and around the Austin community, we host and judge science fairs, volunteer with local schools, and invite speakers to come to campus to discuss their research.

They plan the annual Research Symposium where professors speak in a Ted talk style series about their research and hold Poster Symposium in the spring where students across Cockrell present their poster and compete for a prize.

The hope is that more students become involved with research through the program. Additionally, we meet with college administration regularly to uniform a system for research within the college by listing professors and their current areas of interest.

DS Council is devoted to organizing events and generally building a community for these students. As such, it supports some of the most promising undergraduate researchers in the university. Moreover, we also host research events (e.g., talks by both undergraduate and faculty researchers) that are open to the general public, such that other people can learn about the importance of research.

We also plan on being a funnel for information regarding research and educational opportunities for students and to help further space science research at the University of Texas. We are open to any UT affiliated individual/student that is interested in research in the space sciences. We are also planning fun social events such as joining in on star parties and doing field trips to the McDonald Observatory, NASA facilities, and possibly other locales.

Moreover, since our staff consists entirely of undergraduate students, we also teach undergraduates what it means to be involved in the publication process on both the front and back ends. In addition, we also host several other events that promote research more generally: we host three annual panels where faculty members discuss what research means for their discipline, we have a writing workshop to teach undergraduates how to write an academic paper, and we host a regular blog describing some of the most exciting research happening on campus and around the world.
