The SFAI committee promotes the University's Honor Code and further integerates our core values into the culture of the campus community. Part of our effort relies on IntegrityUT Week, which is a capstone event intended to express the University's commitment to its Honor Code. Thie year's IntegrityUT Week will begin on February 19 and end on February 22.

History

The Senate of College Council's Students for Academic Integrity (SFAI) committee was created in 2003 to integrate honor, responsibility, and ethics into the everyday lives of the students, faculty, and staff at the University of Texas at Austin. We charge ourselves with the responsibility of helping students embrace the core values of the University--learning, discovery, freedom, leadership, individual opportunity and responsibility.

In 2004, the SFAI committee played an integral role in creating and implementing the University's Honor Code. Since then, the SFAI committee has further addressed the challenge issued by the Commission of 125 and currently aims to assimilate the Honor Code into the culture of the campus.

For nearly three years, the committee's sole priority has been to increase student awareness of the Honor Code and University values through events such as IntegrityUT Week and Integrity Panels held during the fall and spring semesters. During past events, the Committee has hosted President Powers, Admiral Bobby R. Inman (former Dean of the LBJ School of Public Affairs), and other distinguished members of the UT community to speak about and discuss issues relating to integrity, honor, and ethics in everyday life.

The Committee has also worked to make the Honor Code more visible to students in their academic lives. In the spring 2006 semester, the SFAI committee, with the help of the University's Division of Instructional Innovation and Assessment, successfully posted the Honor Code on the Blackboard system login page, on eGradebook, and on scantron test sheets. Now, thousands of faculty and students see the Honor Code when they use these tools.
